Global Hunger

GLOBAL HUNGER: Almost 870 million people are chronically undernourished. The vast majority live in developing countries, where about 850 million people, or slightly fewer than 15 percent of the population, are estimated to be undernourished. (Source: FAO Report 2012)

CHILD HUNGER: Globally, an estimated 100 million children under-five years of age are underweight. 2.5 million children die every year from malnutrition. Among preschool-aged children, one in three suffers from a vitamin A deficiency. Half of pregnant women in developing countries suffer from iron deficiency anemia. Nearly 2 billion people are affected by inadequate levels of iodine, which can be easily fixed by adding iodine to table salt.
